Congratulations! Scott Hend (Australia)
Premiere victory on the Legends Tour!
WINSTONgolf Senior Open 2023 Scott Hend gets going
Schwerin/Vorbeck – The final day of the WINSTONgolf Senior Open 2023 was once again tough, the lead changed several times and in the end it was really close. Scott Hend was able to move to the top of the leaderboard with a great finish with 6 birdies on the last seven holes. The likeable Australian won on his first start on the Legends Tour and was delighted with the winner's check for €67,500. He narrowly avoided a play-off with Phillip Archer, whose birdie putt on the 18th hole missed and he had to settle for second place again. He shares this with Peter Baker, who also finished the tournament with -9.
Scott Hend , who traveled to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania with jet lag, is happy about his debut success: “It feels really good. I'm now starting my new career at 50 plus. After 11 holes I was even par for the day and I knew to move forward I would need a few birdies. Fortunately, I was able to do that because I missed a few important putts!”
The spectators enjoyed three days of perfect late summer weather and, for the first time, enjoyed the game of the three proettes Catrin Nilsmark, Elisabeth Esterl and Patricia Beliard . The German Thomas Gögele is tied for 18th with a total of 1 under par, Markus Brier from Austria is in 13th place with 3 under par.
“The new tournament format has brought a completely different atmosphere to the tournament. We would be happy if we could welcome even more players here in Vorbeck next year. On the final day there was a lot of audience interest in Elisabeth Esterl. Many amateurs can identify with women's golf and learn something from it. We can't say at this point whether we will be holding it again in September next year. At the moment I am happy and proud of my team that we mastered this week of the tournament with confidence,” said the satisfied tournament director Stefanie Merchel .
